A Fast and Reliable Measure of General Intelligence

This page contains information about the Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales (RIAS-2) and Reynolds Intellectual Screening Test™, Second Edition (RIST-2). We recommend transitioning to the RIAS-2 Normative Update and RIST-2 Normative Update versions.

The RIAS-2 can be used as a stand-alone IQ assessment or as part of a larger battery to diagnose specific disorders, such as intellectual disabilities or learning disabilities, and aid in educational placement.

The RIST-2 is ideal for identifying individuals who may need a more comprehensive assessment of intelligence in a variety of settings. This general cognitive aptitude screener can also be useful in clinical and school practice when a global estimate of intelligence is all that is needed.

Some RIAS-2 and RIST-2 inventory is able to be used with the normative update:

  • RIAS-2/RIST-2 Professional Manual and RIAS-2/RIST-2 e-Manual - Can be kept and used as references.
  • RIAS-2/RIST-2 Print Stimulus Books - RIAS-2 NU/RIST-2 NU Upgrade Stickers are available for free in the RIAS-2 NU/RIST-2 NU Print Administration Upgrade Kit and upon request by contacting PAR Customer Support to update the front cover of the stimulus books.
  • RIAS-2 Response Forms - Can be used until inventory runs out, at which time you will need to order RIAS-2 NU Response Forms.
  • RIAS-2/RIST-2 Record Forms – Can be used until inventory runs out however, you are required to score via PARiConnect to use the new normative sample.

Features and benefits

  • Accurate and comprehensive – With a reduced emphasis on motor demand, the RIAS-2 a more precise measure of general intelligence, reasoning, memory, and processing speed across the life span.
  • Fast and flexible administration - Administer all eight subtests of the RIAS-2 in less than one hour and the RIST-2 in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Remote administration is available using the RIAS-2 Remote or the RIST-2 Remote Record forms.
  • Reliable screening - The RIST-2 is composed of the Guess What and Odd-Item Out subtests and is designed to produce a single composite score that is an indicator of risk for intellectual impairment.
  • The RIAS-2 Record Form with Spanish Responses - allows bilingual and English language learners the option of answering items in Spanish. An updated version based on the normative update is coming soon and the accompanying manual supplement is available within the RIAS-2/RIST-2 e-Manual.
